i slept late last night. but most of the time, the rest of the family would still be wide awake when i would finally shut my door. i tried to listen if they have already succumbed to sleep. and i got silence as my answer. so i turned off the lights and went to sleep. i was sleeping soundly for a couple of hours, or i thought i was, when i suddenly woke up. my sense of hearing has become a little too sharp for my liking. i couldn't hear the usual whirrs of my electric fan. and instead, i heard the continuous tick tock of my wall clock. it was getting louder and louder. i couldn't help but listen to it. the surrounding environment was too silent and still. and it was forcing me to listen to the sounds of the clock which i am not too fond of hearing especially during unholy hours of the night.
then i noticed that my shirt has become damp. the night was too warm. and it didn't help that the electricity has been shut down for unknown reasons. but despite the obvious heat, i kept myself bundled up. and no, i didn't wrap myself because of fright. i was merely protecting myself from the persistent lone mosquito that has been buzzing around me. and i was desperate enough to blindly swat around me just in case my hand would hit that stupid mosquito. but at that moment, fate was against me. i unlocked my phone's keypad and saw that it was halfway past 3am. and i couldn't go back to sleep.
the mosquito, clock, and the heat. not a good combination especially during black-outs in summer. i got up,opened my door and paused, allowing my eyes to adjust to the darkness. i tiptoed across the hallway and opened the door to our terrace. i was greeted by my bouncing baby retriever. honestly, without his presence, i would still be playing the martyr inside my room. but despite being a dog, the mere fact that he is a living thing allowed me to relax. however, i wasn't successful in avoiding nemesis #1: the mosquito. i returned inside and got myself a blanket. but i wasn't contented in simply sitting and staring at the darkened environment. i went upstairs and corbin just followed me wherever i went. i laid down the blanket and positioned it in such a way that it was protecting me from the cement below and nemesis#1 above.
i was staring at the night sky while corbin was just amusing himself without bothering me. there i was, contemplating about different things about life when my thoughts circled around corbin. i said to myself, swerte ko naman at may corbin ako. tingnan mo siya, hindi nanggugulo ng tao. alam niya kung kelan mangungulit o hindi. alam niya kung kelan ko kailangang mag-isip. then from my peripheral vision i saw a shadow coming towards me. ack! all of a sudden it seemed that corbin thought that "attacking" me should be on top of his to-do list. and it was not a completely enjoyable experience, mind you. though it might seem cute, being licked by a playful drooling puppy is not what i consider a memorable experience. then he went away to amuse himself again. i just shook my head, smiled and resumed my staring contest with the heavenly bodies above me. and before the break of dawn, i saw a single shooting star across the sky. and yes, i made a wish. i simply whispered two words...
and no sorry, i wouldn't reveal the two words i wished for...
